United States Steel Bond and Coin Collection<br>

When founded in 1901, United States Steel Corporation was the largest business enterprise ever launched, with an authorized capitalization of $1.4 billion. Throughout the years, U. S. Steel responded to changing economic conditions and new market opportunities through diversification and periodic restructuring. Today, over a century after its founding. As an emergency measure during WW II, all 1943 U.S. cents were struck in zinc-finished steel instead of copper. The copper saved from this one-year issue was used in the war effort, mainly in the manufacture of shell casings. Most of the so called"steelies" were minted in Philadelphia, but some steel pennies were struck in Denver, and San Francisco. Ironically, many of the unused copper casings replaced by the steel cents were later melted down and used in the creation of regular copper/bronze cents during the late Forties. SET CONTAINS: Actual Stock Certificate From US Steel and all 3 int 1943 Steel pennies!
